Background: Atopic dermatitis is a common skin disease in children as well as in adults, with the important characteristic of being recurrent. Specific immune disorders are the role of serum IgE levels that are associated with allergy risk in patients with atopic dermatitis.
Purpose: To determine the rate of increase in total and specific IgE serum levels in patients with atopic dermatitis; to describe the relationship between the rate of increase in total and specific IgE serum levels with clinical features in patients with atopic dermatitis.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study on 50 patients with atopic dermatitis at Can Tho Hospital of Dermato-Venereology.
Results: The rates of increase in total and specific IgE serum were 54% and 84%, respectively. There was a very positive correlation between total IgE serum concentrations and SCORAD scores.
Conclusion: Total and specific IgE serums are useful tests for the diagnosis and evaluation of the level of disease.
