Objectives: This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Terbinafine and Itraconazole in treating tinea corporis.
Materials and methods: We enrolled 104 patients with tinea corporis, dividing them into two groups. Group 1 comprised 52 patients (30 men, 22 women) treated with Itraconazole at a daily dose of 200mg for 14 days, while Group 2 included 52 patients (32 men, 20 women) treated with Terbinafine at a daily dose of 250mg for 14 days. We conducted clinical examinations and gathered information regarding medical history, disease extent, and the improvement of clinical symptoms, including redness, scaly skin, and itching.
Results: After 2 weeks of treatment, the cure rate in group 1 was 76.9%, and after 4 weeks, it increased to 86.5%. In group 2, the cure rate after 2 weeks was 59.6%, and after 4 weeks, it reached 69.2%. Statistical analysis revealed a significant difference (p < 0.05) favoring the Itraconazole group in terms of disease improvement. Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in skin redness, itching, scaling, and disease severity after treatment, with group 1 experiencing a more pronounced reduction (p < 0.05) compared to group 2.
Conclusion: In the treatment of tinea corporis, Itraconazole demonstrated superior efficacy compared to Terbinafine, as evidenced by a more substantial improvement in patients' conditions.
