Abstract

Purpose: Investigating clinical manifestations, correlative factors and evaluating the results of topical treatment of herpes zoster with He-ne laser combination at Can Tho Dermatology Hospital in 2021.

Participants and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study with 75 patients with shingles who were treated at Can Tho Dermatology hospital in 2021. All of patients were treated according to the usual regimen (antiviral+anti-inflammatory+analgesic) and combined with local He-ne laser irradiation.

Results: The disease occurs in all ages, the age group over 60 years old is the most common (56%). Pain symptoms were found in 100% of study patients. The vesicles lesions accounted for the highest rate (84%), pustules accounted for the lowest rate (22,7%). The most common lesions were trunk 38,7%, head-face-neck 33,3%, arms and legs 9,3%. The degree of mild disease accounted for the highest rate (57,3%), the lowest was in the severe group (6,7%). The group of patients hospitalized for more than 5 days after the lesion was detected made the hospital stay longer (42,9%) and the superinfection conditions due to inappropriate measures also prolong the treatment time. treatment of the patient (50%) with p < 0,05. Gender and season do not affect the severity of herpes zoster disease. After treatment with He-ne laser, 66,7% had good treatment results, 30,7% moderate response, 2,6% poor response.

Conclusion: Herpes zoster disease occurs at any age but mainly in the elderly with clinical symptoms of vesicles, blisters, and pain in most patients, mostly on the trunk and head-face-neck area. Attention should be paid to the time before admission and the state of superinfection because they reduce the response to treatment. After the combined treatment of He-ne laser with conventional regimens, it helps to cure the disease and reduce pain in patients with zona.
