Abstract

Background: The first-line treatment of mild plaque psoriasis is topical monotherapy, particularly corticosteroids with or without calcipotriol. However, long-term use of topical corticosteroids can cause a variety of local and systemic side effects.1 Moisturizers play an important role in the supportive treatment strategy for psoriasis by restoring the barrier function and retaining moisture for the stratum corneum,2  thus reducing the dose of topical corticosteroids in psoriasis patients thereby reducing side effects when used prolonged use of topical corticosteroids.3,4

Objectives: To evaluate the supportive effectiveness of Sorion products in the treatment of mild plaque psoriasis at the National Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology.

Methods: A randomized controlled clinical trial on 70 patients with mild plaque psoriasis at the National Hospital of Dermatology from June 2022 to December 2022. The program SPSS 20.0 was used to analyze the data.

Results: 82,9% of patients completed follow-up up to week 8, the completion rate in the combination group was higher than that in the control group (88,6% vs. 77,1%). The decrease in PASI compared to week 0 was higher in the combination group than in the control group at week 2 (40,9% vs 33,9%) and week 4 (53,4% vs 42,5%) with p < 0,05. The percentage of patients achieving PASI50 in the combination treatment group was higher than in the control group at week 8 with p < 0,05 (74,2% vs 48,1%). The recurrence rate in the two groups during 8 weeks of treatment was not significantly different with p > 0,05 (25,8% in the combination group; 29,6% in control group).

Conclusion: The use of moisturizers in combination with topical medications in patients with mild plaque psoriasis plays an important role in achieving a rapid response to treatment (reducing PASI and achieving PASI50). However, to evaluate whether the use of moisturizer combination with topical betamethasone and calcipotriol can reduce the recurrence rate, studies with longer treatment duration and larger sample sizes are required.
